My ‘Fellow of Information Privacy’ Application

I recently obtained my Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP), one of the highest designations awarded to privacy professionals by the International Associate of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). More details here. I posted my acheivement on LinkedIn to a surprising amount of support. See here. I thought it might be interesting to share my application for the FIP for those interested in applying themselves.

Advisor to SMBs through Fortune 50 on operationalizing multijurisdictional privacy programs through process and technology with experience in advising on DPIAs, Article 30 reports, Consumer Rights, Web Compliance, and Vendor Risk programs.

I joined OneTrust in January 2017 after spending 3.5 years at Accenture consulting on SaaS implementations. This background allowed me quickly dive into the Privacy space and focus on preparing companies for GDPR for the first 1.5 years of my privacy career. Working hand-in-hand with CPOs and Privacy Managers, I built Data Protection Impact Assessments based on the latest WP29 guidance, supported privacy programs in developing their Article 30 reports to identify appropriate legal basis for Processing Activities, and solved for challenges in fulfilling Data Subject Requests. I traveled internationally to Europe and Latin America to train customer organizations on best practices and ensure readiness for May 25.

I am a regular speaker and teacher on ever evolving privacy best practices via OneTrust’s PrivacyConnect full-day, in-person workshops. Topics I cover during these sessions include CCPA Overview, Consumer Rights requirements, Incident & Breach Playbooks, Vendor Management best practices and more. I have taught over 15 of these sessions in the past three years with over 650 attendees in total. These sessions earn CPE credits for attendees. I also present at industry events on topics like ‘Privacy and Marketing User Experience’ and moderate panels with representation from the likes of Warner Media, Floor & Décor, and Red Clover Advisors.

Most recently my time is spent leading a team of privacy consultants focusing on CCPA readiness where I manage and mentor a team of 40 reports. My primary focus is helping organizations automate their consumer rights fulfillment process. I have been able to apply lessons learned from preparing for GDPR to support organizations efforts with navigating the evolving CCPA space. I am spearheading major automation efforts across varying industries and act as the key Services partner in establishing our ID Validation partnership with customers like Experian and LexisNexis.

Through my time at OneTrust I have worked with hundreds of organizations on their privacy programs and met with companies and advocates to define our roadmap and strategy. Highlights of my career include:

  • working closely with over half of our Global 1000 companies on their privacy program implementations
  • early team member of OneTrust’s Implementation team and Customer Support team (#4)
  • advising and training the Allianz privacy team on their implementation of OneTrust, including a city-by-city roadshow to drive DPO adoption of their harmonized privacy program which won Allianz the IAPP Privacy Innovation Award in 2017

What certifications do you have? What was your FIP application process like?
